SURJ Baltimore: ‘Don’t miss SURJ’s Annual Legislative Day: this Saturday, Feb. 9th, 10am – 1pm’

surf baltimoresurf2

Dear SURJ Family,

We invite you to our annual SURJ Legislative Day Event this upcoming Saturday, February 9th!
We will have a panel discussion with social justice leaders in Baltimore, and break out groups with your district that will give everyone the opportunity to network with your neighbors, and learn basic skills to help you navigating the legislative session. Tactics like calls to legislators, providing testimony, hosting house meetings, and upcoming lobby nights will be shared.
Everyone is welcome, whether or not you have experience in Annapolis. Helping with childcare, spreading information on social media or email, making phone calls, and, finding others in your neighborhood to host gatherings, are just a few ways you can help in addition to showing up in Annapolis.

**One HUGE way you can help if you can’t make it this Saturday, is by raising funds for the organizations (listed below) we are hosting: DONATE HERE.

Panelist speakers:
1. A representative from Campaign for Justice, Safety, and Jobs to discuss efforts to reform the Baltimore Police Department through a variety of methods, and uphold bail reform.
2. Lydia Walther-Rodriguez, Lead Organizer for Baltimore, will discuss CASA’s legislative agenda, including the MD Trust Act.
3. Nicole Hanson, Executive Director for Out for Justice, will speak about Women’s Prerelease, Pretrial Voting rights, the REDEEM Act, and Juvenile Justice issues.
**Interested in getting to know the Legislative Team better? Help us out at the event! We would love a few extra hands for setting up the breakfast table, making sure people know which District Break Out rooms to go to, help people sign-in, and distribute flyers, . Check out this link to sign up, we would love to see you!
A few notes on Logistics:
We will provide donuts, bagels, coffee, and fruit.
*Note: we are working on securing a team to do childcare for the event. If this is something you need, please reach out to SURJ via FB or surjbaltimore@gmail.com
